Chorley Old Road in Bolton isn’t a particularly glamorous spot, just your average suburban main road lined with houses, schools and medical practices. There is, however, a new spot to take note of on this seemingly ordinary Bolton road, and that is day and night deli and cafe, Earl’s.
You can’t miss it, being a glowing beacon of orange on a prominent corner, but surrounded by houses and domesticity, you’d be forgiven for being surprised to find it there. Earl’s provides your morning fix, all the way to your evening beverage, operating as a coffee shop, work from home space, lunch spot and bar as the day goes on.

The coffee shop space immediately greets you with a light, bright shopfront, with the light, bright staff to match. Grab a cappuccino or flat white, with a freshly baked sweet treat to take away or enjoy on site – if you stay, you’ll be heavily rewarded.
One of the huge pulls of this place is the gorgeous interior design as you pass through the coffee shop and into the lounge area. The place transforms into a mid-century modern paradise, with a focus on warmth, socialisation and music. Warm wooden furniture and wall panels envelop visitors in a retro hug, and a sleekly decorated bureau topped with a vintage record player steal the show as a fitting centrepiece.

Long tables and window seats adorn the space, welcoming groups to share the space with a community feel, just as you’d expect of a Greater Manchester hotspot. Earl’s makes a feature of its extensive vinyl record collection, keeping the sleeves out on display, adding to the authentic, vintage feel of the place.
What’s more, once you’ve delved into morning treats, you can stick around and sample the small plates and wine menu. With posh picky bits including olives, charcuterie and cheese options, plus a wide range of natural wines to accompany the eats, you’ll be well looked-after here – feel free to yap away with friends as the hours go by, there’s no rush to leave.

Alongside the huge wine list, Earl’s offers some strong beer options, with plenty on tap to cater for everyone. With local Bolton beers available from Rivington Brew Co, and cult favourite Lukas, beer-drinkers will be happy with the selection. Plus, with Brock stout on tap, Earl’s encourages customers to ‘split the E‘, in the style of splitting the G of a Guinness… give it a go!

Earl’s has also introduced a WFE – ‘work from Earl’s‘ – deal, in which customers can pay £10 and stick around all day for free coffee refills, making your work day a doddle with a cheeky change of scenery. There’s really no down side to Earl’s, and with a brunch menu incoming in the next few weeks, this independent Bolton gem is only set to get bigger.
