As we find ourselves in the midst of a summer of sport, a new bar has opened in Manchester city centre perfect for sports fans, both those who like to take part or watch it on the big screen. Known as Courts Club, the basketball and tennis-inspired bar in Manchester will serve up sport via its courts as well as sporting event screenings, including the Olympics which is on the horizon.
Open from July 19, Courts Club is situated within the new St Johns development and will feature access to a full basketball and tennis court as well as laidback seating (both indoors and outdoors), benched dining and lounge chairs at the courtside venue. The courtside venue also has plans to host pop-up food and live events making it a hub for dining out and entertainment, as well as being a hotspot for tennis and basketball games.
Opening seven days a week, Courts Club will also serve up a curated small bites menu and drink selection to enjoy brunch or a morning coffee on the outside terrace post-match on the courts or alongside watching sporting events on the big screen. Tuck into the likes of the “Courts Club” sandwich or Hawaiian bacon, habanero and kiwi hot sauce and sliced pineapple grilled cheese or one of the bar’s tasty salad bowls.
Courts Club comes from the same people behind The Lawn Club, Shiko Group, who also operate Side Street Studios, Deck & Dome, Foleys XYZ, Foleys ABC and The Stables in Manchester. Commenting on the opening, Anthony Ellis at Shiko Group, said: “Courts Club will be a brilliant addition to the city centre, and brings with it a more relaxed atmosphere and chilled out vibe to catch up on sport, enjoy a coffee or light bite and soak up the last of the summer sunshine. We’re excited to offer a beer garden – Huge outdoor terrace, sports hotspot and a perfect meeting place all in one, and Courts Club will quickly become a favourite in the city centre.”
He added: “Joining a thriving hub with nearby Spinningfields, Salford’s New Bailey and Deansgate, Courts Club is ideally placed for the after-work crowd, those looking for a chilled ‘go to’ spot for coffee and to relax or to catch up on sport. Not only can Courts Club offer relaxed summer vibes with live music, but it’s also got access to the full basketball and tennis courts – the perfect place to shoot some hoops and let off some steam.”
On Jul 19, Courts Club will open its doors and will be hosting a half court shot competition. For those who think their basketball skills are sharp, the venue is offering £500 to the first person who can make the tricky half-court shot with the competition running from July 19 to July 31.
For those already itching to practise their serve or to shoot some hoops, Courts Club is also offering free court hire for its first month of opening. Reservations are taken via the bar or via the Courts Club website here.
Courts Club is now open and can be found at Goods Yard Street, Manchester, M3 3BG.
