40% of British travellers are yet to book their summer holiday and rightfully so as many are still in the midst of figuring out when and where to go. It’s not uncommon that many travellers often avoid holidays during the peak of the summer to avoid the chaos of it all. Especially from Manchester.
However, according to new research from Skyscanner, those who do intentionally miss the peak time travel often also miss out on savings.
Skyscanner claims that the first two weeks of the school holidays in July are the most popular time to travel, and the data also suggests that it is the most expensive.
Lucky for us, the travel comparison site, has also revealed the exact week that travellers should opt to fly in order to save money this year. This means, more affordable things to do this summer!
According to the data, Brits can save up to 17% by traveling the week commencing August 19 rather than July 22. That means, you could be saving up to £268 for a family of four.
Skyscanner’s new ‘Savings Generator’ data also reveals the best time to book and the best value summer destinations which is ideal for the 30% of those are still trying to find the best deal and 23% are waiting for last-minute deals.
The data suggests that for flights to Faro, Portugal, the best time to book was six weeks ahead. Whereas flights to Antalya in Turkey would be just one week in advance. Risky for sure, but there’s data to back it so it must be true!
Skyscanner also recommends booking 14 weeks ahead for July and 12 weeks ahead for August trips to really benefit on those savings. They got further by suggesting what day of the week to fly on as well – suggesting that Tuesday is often believed to be a cheaper day to book flights as airlines often release sales from Monday night or Tuesday morning. Which means you would be right on time to grab those flight deals than you would if you looked on Saturday.
However, it’s good to note that flight prices are entirely dependent on supply and demand so really, it’s important to know how popular your flight is rather than booking it on a specific day.
Good thing we’ve got the Skyscanner ‘Savings Generator’ to guide us for the cheapest week to fly.
