There are many reasons to want to move to the North West, from its lively city centres to its friendly residents. But if you’re looking to settle down in this peaceful region, there are a few areas where you can get a significantly cheaper house, and Stockport, consistently named one of the best places to live, has been named the second cheapest in the North West. The team at online mortgage brokers Better.co.uk have ranked some of the most popular areas in the North West, from the least to the most expensive for getting on the property ladder, which makes for interesting reading.
Although our neighbour Liverpool came top of the list, in second place is Stockport, with an average house price of £227,589.29. With picturesque rural views and easy access to Manchester’s city centre, this town is ideal for first-time homebuyers seeking the best of both worlds.
Better yet, if you’re keen to spend time in Stockport itself, there’s plenty to do here, regardless of your interests. From having a picnic in Lyme Park on a summer’s day to exploring the Hat Works Museum on a rainy one, you’re truly spoilt for choice.
As aforementioned, Liverpool topped the list for the cheapest average house prices for first-time buyers in the North West, with the average home costing just £209,250 – nearly £20,000 cheaper than Stockport. Not only is Liverpool affordable but it’s also an incredible place to live. Known as the birthplace of The Beatles, it’s a haven for music lovers, home to iconic venues like The Cavern Club and The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
But these aren’t the only things that make Liverpool such a worthwhile place to reside. It is also home to great transport links, friendly locals, and dozens of places to shop until you drop. So, if you’re seeking to settle down in the North West, Liverpool offers excellent value for money.
