To kickstart Oktoberfest, Bundobust Brewery is also celebrating one year of being open to the public this Friday (September 16). Head to their Manchester Oxford Street brewery from 5pm to bag yourself a free pint of Bundobar! Black Lager if you happen to be one of the first customers- but be quick, as they only have 50 to give away!
As well as tapping the kegs open, Bundobust Brewery will be hosting live performances from Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band (6pm, 7pm & 8pm), and you can also expect pretzel giveaways and DJ Lorna Isabel alongside a tasty specials launch.
To celebrate Oktoberfest, the Indian street food restaurant will be introducing Bundobar!, Bundobust’s spin on Oktoberfest festivities, which will take place at all Bundobust venues, including Bundobust Brewery and Manchester Piccadilly venues, from September 16th to October 23rd. Bundobar! features the launch of four Indian street food interpretations of German festival food standards, two Oktoberfest beer specials, and a super limited edition ceramic stein crafted by potter, Joe Hartley.
Bundobust chefs tackle the German institution of currywurst with Currywurst Koftas, which are vegan and gluten free, which consist of desi dumplings of cauliflower, cabbage and carrot are served with a classic currywurst sauce charged with garam masala and a dusting of curry powder. Another twist on German tradition comes in the form of Kartoffelpuffer (also vegan and gluten free), which are potato and sauerkraut fritters spiced with fresh fenugreek, fennel, chilli and ginger and served with a traditional cinnamon applesauce dip.
Visitors to Bundobust during Oktoberfest can also find Prost Pickles (a medley of heritage carrot, mooli radish, turnip and cauliflower pickled with mustard, chilli, dill and peppercorns) and a German-Indian potato salad Bataka Salat (purple and new potatoes combined with dill, curried sour cream, tamarind chutney and crunchy samosa pastry) on the menu. Can’t decide what to order? Fear not as Bundobust have created an Oktobefest Combo for 2 for just £32, featuring Prost Pickles + Kartoffelpuffer + Bataka Salat + Currywurst Koftas + Okra Fries + Chole Saag.
Fans who visit Manchester’s Bundobust Brewery will also be greeted by a brewery exclusive dish in the form of the Bundo Pretzel. A collaboration with Bolton-based Bavarian bakery, Pretzel & Spelt, comprised of a garam masala and turmeric dough pretzel flecked with ajwain seeds, black salt and mango powder and served with currywurst dip and pickles.
Headlining the bar, Bundobust have brewed up the limited edition “Bundobar!” – 5.2% Black Lager, a proper German style Schwarzbier with Munich and Vienna malts and pairs well with the Oktoberfest specials. Bundobust have also linked with Norfolk farmhouse brewery, Duration, to collaborate on Too Much Crispy, a malty golden German-style 5% Helles lager, available on tap and in cans.
Looking for a pint-sized Bundobar! souvenir? Celebrated Manchester potter, Joe Hartley, of Yellowhammer in Stockport, has created a super limited run of Bundobust Brewery ceramic steins for their Oktoberfest celebrations, available for purchase at all Bundobust venues.
Bundobust restaurants will be open and serving food 12-9.30pm as usual this coming Monday 19th September.
