Billie Eilish, working alongside filmmaker James Cameron, has released a new 3D concert film following her Manchester performances on her Hit Me Hard And Soft world tour. The ten-time Grammy Award winner could have chosen almost anywhere to film her latest concert project, yet, she landed on Manchester. For Mancunians it’s not much of a surprise, the city’s crowds are known for their energy and connection to live music, making it a natural fit for a project like this. So, what made Manchester stand out?
Speaking at the London premiere, Eilish said the decision to film in Manchester was natural as it’s “one of my favourite audiences ever… I fricking love Manchester”. The self-directed film captures her four sold-out nights at the Co-op Live Arena, making it clear that Manchester’s love for Billie is more than mutual. The project itself, however, came about unexpectedly, after director James Cameron approached her with the idea of creating a 3D concert experience that would offer audiences a perspective they wouldn’t usually get at a live show.
As well as the performances, the film puts a spotlight on fans, capturing their reactions and personal stories, and highlighting the connection behind her music. It also offers a behind-the-scenes look at the scale of each show, with Eilish noting that working on the project changed how she sees her performances, thinking of them more as a cinematic experience than just a gig.

Manchester has already found itself in the global music spotlight several times this year, with both the BRIT Awards and the MOBO Awards taking place in the city. Still, it’s a welcome reminder of just how special this city is when an artist as big as Billie Eilish recognises the energy that makes Manchester stand out. But it’s not all about the big stage — the city’s diverse mix of musical experiences make it one of the most exciting places for music in the UK. Here, music stretches far beyond arenas, with everything from independent gigs to unique experiences like Candlelight concerts, where live music is paired with atmospheric, candlelit settings across the city.
These Candlelight concerts pop up in some of Manchester’s most beautiful venues, turning historic spaces like Manchester Cathedral and Hallé St Peter’s into glowing, intimate settings for live music. Whether it’s classical compositions or tributes to modern artists, they show there’s more than one way to experience the city’s iconic music scene.
