This Manchester Restaurant Has Been Named One Of The Best Places For A Sunday Roast In The UK

Manchester is home to plenty of delicious and comforting Sunday roasts, with some so tasty that they've been ranked as some of the best in the country.

According to a new survey, Manchester has some of the best roasts in the country but tell us something we don’t know, eh? A Manchester restaurant in particular, however, was named one of the best places for a Sunday roast in the UK.

Ranking favourably in a new survey conducted by Rate Good Roasts, Greater Manchester alone lapped up four spots in the top ten, two of which being in the city centre, showing that our region is truly superior when it comes to a proper Sunday dinner. Although 2022 saw Ducie Street Warehouse win the coveted top spot, representing Manchester, first place went to The Abbey Inn in Byland, North Yorkshire for 2023.

However, all was not lost as popular steak restaurant on Manchester’s Deansgate, Hawksmoor, was awarded joint second place alongside The Loch & The Tyne in Old Windsor. Hawksmoor received a score of 96% (beaten by The Abbey Inn by 1 per cent) and was awarded 10 out of 10 for its meat, gravy, Yorkshire puddings, sides as well as venue and service.

Joining Hawksmoor on the best Sunday roast in the UK list is Maray which serves Middle Eastern inspired sharing plates as well as a banging roast, plus vegetarian restaurant Greens in Sale (which also has a spot in Didsbury). Other noteworthy Greater Manchester spots which made the best Sunday roasts in the UK list included Gladstone Bistro in Stalybridge, which came in fifth place, in addition to Evelyn’s Cafe Bar in the Northern Quarter in 13th place and Colleen’s in Ramsbottom in 15th place.

Market Square Social also deserves a mention as the spot in Denton just missed out on the top ten, coming in eleventh place and scoring a commendable 87% in the Rate Good Roasts scoring system, in comparison to Hawksmoor’s impressive 96%. The scoring system took a number of factors into consideration, including service, quality and sides served – and the one thing we’re incredibly envious of is that the team actually taste-tested each and every one of them when hunting for the best Sunday roast in the UK.
