We love a good bit of brunch here in Manchester, whether it be the bottomless kind, or a bit more tame with a coffee and and a poached egg. Now, ahead of National Brunch Weekend (October 2 and 3), new research has revealed the best places in the UK for brunch – and the best in Greater Manchester happens to be in Stockport.
The research conducted by onsite travel booking site, Omio, looks at the most highly rated place to enjoy a bite of brunch in some of the top cities across the UK. From London to Edinburgh and Liverpool to Cardiff, Omio has used TripAdvisor data to showcase the places ranked number one in each city that offer the best brunch, along with details on how close they are by train.
When it comes to Manchester, the study has revealed that Laco Cafe & Bistro in Stockport is the place to go for your avo on toast or caffeine hit. Beating well-known and popular places in Manchester city centre such as Ezra & Gil, Evelyn’s and Federal, Laco Cafe & Bistro is a modest spot, located on Little Underbank in Stockport.
The best brunch in Manchester is only 13 minutes from Stockport railway station, according to Omio, and the TripAdvisor reviews speak for themselves, with a 5-star rating on the site, and last year, the cafe and bistro was awarded the Traveler’s Choice Award by TripAdvisor, making it into the top 10% of restaurants worldwide, for the second year running.
One reviewer wrote: “Called in for a coffee after pottery class nearby. Unassuming place sat amongst closed shops. Pleasant inside, cosy, small, rustic tables. Then you try the cakes and brunch ! …. simply one of the best meals I’ve had recently […] not silly pricing either. What a find …. well done, Laco, excellent! I’ll definitely be back.”
Another said: “What a fabulous little cafe/bistro right in the heart of the regeneration of Underbank Stockport […] The quality and presentation of food was excellent. Would highly recommend.”
The menu runs the gamut, with breakfast classics like the full English, smashed avo on toast, and porridge, alongside hearty lunch options including panini melts, soups, and salads if you’re looking for something a bit lighter. There’s also plenty of coffee, juices, milkshakes and smoothies to choose from, as well as cakes and sweet treats, about which one TripAdvisor reviewer said: “Wish that we were local as the cakes looked amazing too!”
