Last month saw some of Greater Manchester’s finest eateries win big at the Asian Restaurant Awards 2023, including one spot being named ‘Restaurant of the Year’ in the North of England. But now, organisers of the event have announced the shortlist for this year’s Asian Curry Awards, dubbed the “Curry Oscars”, and there are some big contenders representing the Greater Manchester region.
The list of over 200 venues across the country will now be whittled down to the top hundred by online votes from members of the spice loving public, which will decide the eventual finalists. These will be then assessed by a panel of judges from the Asian Catering Federation (ACF), who will determine category winners.
The victors will be revealed at a glittering gala dinner and presentation ceremony at Grosvenor House in London on November 19. The Asian Curry Awards cover the complete range of Asian and Oriental cuisines: Bangladeshi, Burmese, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Middle Eastern, Pakistani, Singaporean, Sri Lankan, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.
A number of dining spots in Manchester city centre have made the Asian Curry Awards 2023 shortlist including Cheetham Hill buffet restaurant and banquet hall Al Maidah, Indian deli in Ancoats and Chorlton Lily’s, Chinese restaurants Pinwei and Red Chilli and Indian restaurant on King Street Wah Ji Wah. Akbar’s Group, which has a restaurant on Manchester’s Liverpool Road and who’s owner Shabbir Hussain won the Curry King Award two years in a row, has also made the shortlist for serving some of the best curries.
