All hell broke loose a few weeks ago when iconic burger joint Almost Famous announced the immediate closure of its two Manchester venues, alongside its Liverpool and Leeds spots too. Now, it has been confirmed that the Almost Famous Northern Quarter site will be reopening this week, having been bought by Liverpool hospitality company D2 – the firm behind the PINS Social Club brand.
D2 has said it plans to re-hire back as many of the old team as possible for the Almost Famous reopening, and will also reopen the Liverpool branch, though the fate of the Leeds restaurant remains uncertain. Almost Famous Manchester is due to reopen in the Northern Quarter this Friday 21 February.
D2’s new Managing Director Daniel Kelly will be at the helm of the Northern Quarter and Liverpool sites – he was the former Operations Director at Almost Famous between 2018 and 2022.
After more than 13 years in the city, Almost Famous closed all of its sites in January, and while they may be ‘almost famous’ by name, they’re completely famous in the city for having some of the best burgers in town, becoming a long-standing fixture in Manchester.
At the time, Beau Myers, co-founder of Almost Famous, said: “It is with broken hearts that today, 27th January 2025, we announce the closure of all Almost Famous venues across Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds. The current economic climate has proven too challenging for us to overcome, with lingering debt from Covid and rising costs across every aspect of the business. Despite our best efforts, we are no longer able to continue.
“For over 13 years, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented and passionate people in hospitality. We will do everything we can to support you during this transition.”
Beau first launched Almost Famous in Manchester’s Northern Quarter back in 2012 – pioneering the ‘dirty burger’ trend in the city and sparking queues around the block from hungry punters desperate to get inside.
Luckily for Almost Famous fans, and any re-hired staff, Almost Famous Northern Quarter is set to reopen this Friday 21 February – so go along and experience their juicy burgers, they’re sure to taste that bit better after thinking we’d be losing them.
