The Greater Manchester region is home to plenty of phenomenal restaurants, some of which have received praise this week by featuring in The Good Food Guide’s best local restaurants list. However, one dining spot which straddles the Greater Manchester/Derbyshire border has made it into the top ten of the list this year.
From Michelin Guide awards to Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants list, Almanac is putting Glossop on the map
Following the award of a prestigious Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide, Almanac in Glossop secured an impressive No.9 ranking in Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants in 2026 list, putting the Peak District town on the map. The bar and restaurant serves seasonal and traditional British cuisine alongside a well-curated wine list.
Almanac is run by self-taught chef and restaurateur Luke Payne, who also runs The Pack Horse in Hayfield, which was awarded No.10 in the inaugural 100 Best Pubs in Britain list. The Peak District pub is also featured in the Michelin Guide and ranked 19th in the Top 50 Gastropubs Awards 2024.

Speaking about the accolades, Luke Payne said: “To receive a Bib Gourmand for Almanac is an incredible honour and a testament to the hard work of our entire team. Greater Manchester spots featured in the Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants list
When it comes to restaurants in Greater Manchester making the list, coffee spot, deli and pizzeria Lupo, located on a Prestwich industrial estate, placed 19th. Plus, The Spärrows, another Michelin Guide-approved restaurant situated underneath a railway arch in Red Bank, Manchester, was ranked 58th.
In addition to Almanac, another dining spot close to the Peaks that made the cut was A Tavola Gastronomia Siciliana in High Peak, Derbyshire, placing 92nd. The North West regional and overall winner went to Italian spot La Locanda in Gisburn, Lancashire, north of Manchester and just over an hour’s drive away from the city.
