In celebration of the Summer Solstice (June 21), Manchester’s famed ‘Yogathon’ is returning to Great Northern Warehouse with a day of free outdoor yoga sessions led by award-winning instructors from The Life Centre. Located outdoors at the iconic amphitheatre, Yogathon promises a full day of yoga, from morning through to evening, offering Mancunians an opportunity to get on the mat and work on the mind.
Early birds can kickstart the day with 108 Sun Salutations from 7:30am – 9:30am, perfectly timed as the sun rises over the city on the longest day of the year. Over lunch, yoga lovers can dive into downward dog with a lively functional flow class at 12:30pm – 1:15pm, or relax after work with a fun and friendly Vinyasa class at 5:15pm – 6pm.
Suitable for all ages and abilities, Yogathon offers yogis and novices alike an opportunity to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of the ancient practice, free, in the great outdoors.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own mats if they have them, however mats will be provided in the amphitheatre. All proceeds from the Yogathon will go to Eat Well MCR, a local charity which supports people living in poverty across the city, by delivering meals and providing much-needed respite during difficult times.
Mark Schofield, Centre Director for Great Northern Warehouse, said: “Following the success of previous Yogathon events, we are excited to welcome yoga enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to Great Northern Warehouse to free their minds and try something new. We’re looking forward to watching Mancunians practice their Sun Salutations in our iconic amphitheatre, as where better to enjoy yoga, than outdoors, surrounded by great people.”
Ruth Allan, Business Manager at The Life Centre, added: “We’re inviting anyone and everyone, from yoga beginners to seasoned pros, to join us for this year’s Yogathon and embark on a journey of well-being and self-discovery. As the summer solstice is also International Day of Yoga this is the perfect time to celebrate and discover yoga’s positive impact on the body, mind and planet.”
