So, the clocks went forward early this morning, and it’s safe to say we were all counting down the days until we finally got that oh-so-precious extra hour of daylight. But the question is, what’s the best way to make use of it now it’s here? To celebrate the arrival of longer days and (hopefully!) warmer weather, we’ve partnered with Corona to bring you inspo on some great ways to make the most of your evenings in Manchester this spring.
1. Sip an ice cold Corona with a wedge of lime in a sunny beer garden
It’s (quite literally) like clockwork. Spring arrives, and suddenly there is not a pub garden in sight that isn’t bustling with people, all eager to sit outdoors and sip something delicious, fizzy and refreshing. And we can’t think of anything that feels more appropriate for a sunny evening than an ice cold Corona with a fresh wedge of lime.
2. Enjoy a scenic post-work cycle
Manchester looks especially pretty in the spring. And what better way to take it all in than a bike ride along a lovely cycle route? Whether you’re hiring a Brompton Bike or you have your own, there are so many places to explore. For some waterside tranquility, head along the Rochdale Canal towpath or Castlefield and Deansgate Locks. Plattfields and Whitworth Park are great options if you prefer some open green space.
3. Take a boat ride
If you’d prefer to be on the water than running alongside it, hiring a kayak or canoe to take onto the Bridgewater Canal in Sale is a great way to unwind after work. Or, if you feel like being super hands off, there’s the option to relax on an hour-long canal and river cruise, where you can spot key landmarks, such as Manchester United’s home ground, the Old Trafford football stadium, and George Stephenson’s railway bridge from 1830.
4. Turn dinner time into an evening picnic
At this time of year, absolutely every opportunity to dine outdoors must be taken. Whether it’s eating dinner in your garden, or heading to your local park with a blanket, a hamper and a cool box stocked with frosty Coronas, there’s no better way to toast to the start of a wonderful Manchester spring.
5. Walk to see the beautiful blossoms
One of our absolute favourite things about spring, is the arrival of the picture-perfect cherry blossom that adorns the streets of Manchester with the prettiest shade of pink. If you’re keen to catch sight of some uplifting botanicals, you’re likely to see it at Castlefield Viaduct, Phillips Park, and Parsonage Gardens.
6. Get the most out of golden hour
If we can give you one piece of advice this spring, it’s to go the extra mile for that golden hour moment. It doesn’t get much better than soaking up every last drop of evening sun when the city is all a-glow. Some great spots for this excellent spring activity are the 20 Stories, YES, and Atlas Bar.
