Escape under an archway of beautiful wisteria at Walkden Gardens

Walkden Garden’s biggest draws is the long wisteria arch, which is at its brightest in May and creates a striking tunnel of blossom for visitors to walk beneath.
Beyond that, the site is arranged into distinct spaces, including a Japanese Garden, Theatre Lawn, Mini Arboretum, Cherry Walk and smaller rooms such as the Fuchsia, Conifer and Dovecote gardens.
That variety gives Walkden Gardens a much richer feel than a standard local park, with each corner offering something different to discover.
Walkden Garden is the secret garden in Greater Manchester you need to visit this spring

The gardens take their name from Harry Walkden, whose former nursery became the basis for the site, and the land is now owned by Trafford Council.
One of the most notable heritage features is the Dovecote, a Grade II listed building that was moved here from the grounds of the demolished Sale Old Hall.
The gardens also have a strong community story, with the Friends of Walkden Gardens helping to maintain the site and support events throughout the year.
