This autumn is set to be a knock out as boxer and former Love Island contestant Tommy Fury will face Youtube star KSI in a fight in Manchester. Taking place at Manchester’s AO Arena on October 14, the founder of Prime energy drinks will challenge Tommy Fury, the brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, in his hometown.
Fury, who recently got engaged to Molly-Mae Hague, beat YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia in February. KSI, real name Olajide Olatunji, has previously fought in a variety of exhibition bouts, twice taking on Jake Paul’s brother, Logan. In addition to the fight between KSI and Tommy Fury, Logan Paul will fight as part of the double main event on October’s card against a yet-to-be-named opponent.
Taking to social media, KSI announced the fight saying: “OCTOBER 14TH, I’m doing what Jake Paul couldn’t and beating Tommy Fury on the biggest night in crossover boxing history, at Manchester’s AO Arena, live on DAZN PPV on the PRIME CARD!”
KSI, who first rose to fame playing the FIFA video game for an online audience, is a regular on the popular Sidemen YouTube channel, which has nearly 19 million subscribers. He also promised to “silence all the doubters that believe I have no chance” in what he says is “the toughest fight in the influencer boxing scene”.
As for Tommy Fury, who is is unbeaten in nine professional fights, winning four by knockout, also announced the news of the fight, saying: “OCTOBER 14TH…. You’re getting knocked out in front of my home crowd. This is gonna be fun.” The Love Island star also called the fight “easy money” and said he will knock KSI out “inside four rounds”.
However, the match-up will not be sanctioned by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) as a professional fight and KSI does not hold a professional licence in the country. October’s card, which will be live on DAZN and is organised by Misfits Events, will be sanctioned by a body called the Professional Boxing Association (PBA), but it won’t count towards either fighter’s professional record.
