As we roll further into the year, the promise of longer days and school holidays is just around the corner. To help keep the family entertained, the East Lancashire Railway (ELR) has announced the return of the beloved Day Out With Thomas—a full-day experience centred around everyone’s favourite Number 1 Engine.
What to expect on your journey

The adventure begins at Bury Bolton Street Station. It is recommended to arrive up to 45 minutes before your ticketed departure time to soak up the atmosphere.
- The main event: A 45-minute countryside trip to Ramsbottom Station, pulled by Thomas himself.
- Meet the legends: Rub shoulders with Sir Topham Hatt on the platform and snap a photo with Thomas.
- The return trip: A classic diesel engine will lead the journey back to Bury, where the fun continues at the Bury Transport Museum.
Activities & entertainment

Beyond the rails, your ticket grants you access to a massive variety of themed activities designed for young fans:
- Live shows: Interactive performances by Sodor Station Sweepers Rusty and Dusty.
- Games and play: Thomas & Friends character hunts, garden games, and four toddler-friendly funfair rides.
- Creative hub: Arts and crafts workshops where kids can build their own musical instruments.
- Extra perks: Face painting (ages 2+) and exclusive Thomas & Friends giveaways for every child.
Bonus Value: Your event ticket also includes unlimited travel on all regular ELR service trains for the day, as well as entry into the Bury Transport Museum.
