Known for its underground feel and true Salfordian spirit, The White Hotel has long been a favourite of ravers and gig-goers alike – but now the beloved spot has announced its closure. Don’t panic though, because there’s still time to enjoy it before it closes its doors for the last time.
Part of the so-called ‘Strange Quarter‘, The White Hotel is part of a salt-of-the-earth underground music scene, which until now was seen to be the up and coming spot to party – with redevelopment in the works and attention being paid to the value that DIY venues can bring to the cultural scene in Manchester and Salford.
The White Hotel has never had a problem with drawing crowds, and with sold-out gigs from the likes of Damo Suzuki and William Basinski, the hard-to-find, ‘IYKYK’ venue has seemingly defied logic.

Why is The White Hotel closing?
According to Salford City Council’s Strategic Regeneration Framework, the White Hotel is in a flood risk zone, and although the venue could operate for a few years yet, operators have decided to shut up shop before outside factors force them out.
When is The White Hotel closing?
The White Hotel is set to close in January 2027, so visitors have a good eight months to enjoy the legendary club nights and gigs that are sure to be more iconic than ever.

Although many will be feeling shocked and nostalgic about the closure, The White Hotel is set to live on, as is the nature of the DIY club scene. We can’t see this being the last of artistic director Austin Collings, or Hotel “caretaker” Ben Ward… watch this space.
As part of the redevelopment of the area, The White Hotel isn’t actually being replaced by any apartments, but given the flood risk zone will be taken over by a wetland park. You can see the plans for the area here.
