Fancy watching the latest blockbuster in style? Well luckily for those in the Greater Manchester town of Sale, a new, luxurious independent cinema has arrived in Stanley Square. Known as The Northern Light, the cinema is the first destination for movie-goers in Sale in nearly 40 years and will open this week.
The Northern Light promises “an unparalleled cinematic experience”, showcasing the latest Hollywood has to offer as well as independent, foreign language, classic films and National Theatre Productions, and other live events from around the globe. Film fans can look forward to an impressive line-up, including the highly anticipated Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, then followed by Dog Man and the classic Captain America.

Open year round, excluding Christmas Day, the brand new cinema is comprised of three screens with the latest low energy laser projection, surround sound and a choice of seating including armchairs and sofas for maximum comfort. As no cinematic experience is complete without a treat, there will also be a bar serving wine, local craft beer, homemade cake, fresh popcorn and cinema snacks.
The new venue in Stanley Square comes from family-owned business, Manero Cinemas Limited, who are also owners of The Rex in Wilmslow and Savoy in Heaton Moor. On the opening of the group’s sixth cinema, owner and managing director or Manero Cinemas Limited, Tony Mundin, said: “The Northern Light Cinema will offer an affordable yet luxurious experience, making it easier for everyone in Sale to enjoy regular trips to the movies. Our focus is on exceptional service and comfort, ensuring that every visit is a fantastic one.”

The Northern Light Cinema is dedicated to making film accessible to everyone. Each screen includes wheelchair spaces, and the venue is equipped with Dolby Accessibility Solutions, allowing visitors to enjoy captions or audio descriptions for most films. For those who prefer a more sensory-friendly experience, the cinema also offers Relaxed Screenings, where lighting and sound levels are lowered to create a more comfortable environment.
The addition of the new cinema follows a wider regeneration of Stanley Square which has seen a number of independents set up shop in the newly revived town centre. At Stanley Square, you can find the likes of brunch spot Blanchflower, Indian-Scottish fusion restaurant Roti, family art cafe Bean & Brush, homeware and ceramics store The Sculpts and vintage shop Dead Good Vintage, to name a few.

The Northern Light cinema is located at the former WHSmith unit at Stanley Square, Sale and is open from February 12. Find out more about the cinema here.
