Known as one of the go-tos for Guinness and live music in the Northern Quarter, The Freemount, has announced it will be closing its doors. But all is not lost as The Freemount is set to reopen in a new Northern Quarter location…just over the road.
Opening in 2017, the pub on Oldham Street has become a staple with locals for post-work pints and a hotspot for nightly live music. Due to being unable to renew the lease at the original site, the team are reopening at the legendary old Dry Bar unit, which has sat empty since the bar closed almost 10 years ago.

Fans of the pub recognised for its green and white tiled exterior and Guinness pelican mural need not fear as it reopens (just across the road) on March 14th – with extended opening times and even more live music. With all the character of the current site, The Freemount, in its new home, will feature its open brick interiors, live music seven days a week, multiple beer taps and, of course – Guinness. It’s everything we all know and love about The Freemount, just on the other side of the street.
The new site was formerly home to Dry Bar, opened by Factory Records label boss Tony Wilson in 1989, however after a solid 28 years it closed its doors in 2017. Dry Bar was also a regular for some of Manchester’s most famous faces including Liam Gallagher.
And now the legendary space is to be brought back to life with love from the team at The Freemount. Punters can expect ice cold pints, bustling atmosphere, live music every night but alas the 2am Saturday queues will remain (sorry).
The Freemount will host its final night of trade in their current location on Sunday 9th March with a massive closing party, reopening within its new home on Friday 14th March at 5pm.
The Freemount will be located at 28-30 Oldham Street, M1 1JN from March 14.
