After seven years on Manchester’s King Street, restaurant Tast Catala will officially be closing its doors tomorrow (Saturday 20th December). Launched in 2018 as a collaboration between Michelin-starred chef Paco Perez and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, alongside club CEO Ferran Soriano and former director of football Txiki Begiristain, the Manchester restaurant was dedicated to Catalan cuisine.
Tast means ‘taste’ in Catalan, and the restaurant was all about offering guests a taste of Catalonia with their menu of small plates and sharing nibbles, plus main courses inspired by the Spanish region. Spread across three floors, the 120-cover restaurant boasts a casual dining and bar area on the ground floor, a first-floor dining room, and a second floor with private rooms offering a tasting menu.

Why is Pep Guardiola’s restaurant Tast Catala closing?
Despite its reputation, the owners cited “exceptionally challenging” economic conditions and rising costs as the main reasons behind the difficult decision to suddenly close Tast Catala.
Announcing the news on social media and on the Tast Catala website, the statement said: “After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close Tast’s doors for the very last time on 20 December 2025. Tast has been built on the passion, talent and commitment of an exceptional team, and we want to begin by thanking every single person who has worked with us over the years. Your creativity, care and professionalism have been the heart of Tast.”

The statement continued to thank their loyal customers for choosing to dine with them, saying that their belief in Tast has “kept us alive for seven years”. The restaurant also thanked their suppliers, producers and partners for playing a vital role in shaping what Tast stands for.
The closure announcement continued saying, “Like many in the hospitality sector, we have faced exceptionally challenging trading conditions and increased costs. But the unwavering support of our shareholders and the dedication of our team have seen us through these past seven years.
“Above all, we are proud to have been able to share some of Catalunya, our beloved country, with the people of Manchester. Between now and our final service on 20 December, we look forward to welcoming you and celebrating what Tast has always been about: great food, great people, and memorable moments shared around the table. Thank you for being part of our journey.”
