Manchester is a city largely built on music heritage and with a strong cultural thread running through it. This is clearer than ever when an icon like Stanley Chow returns to his roots of DJing right here in Manchester, which is exactly what has been announced for next week.
Internationally acclaimed illustrator and designer Stanley Chow will be the next special guest DJ at The Garden Bar (formerly The Font) in Chorlton, performing a one-off set on Friday 27 February. While best known for his distinctive portrait illustrations – featuring everyone from athletes, actors and musicians to Hollywood icons – Stan also has deep roots in Manchester’s music scene.

Before his art career exploded, he was a regular behind the decks at a number of city centre venues including The Roadhouse, Dry Bar, Fab Cafe and Night & Day throughout the 90s and early 2000s.
Stanley has strong ties to the local creative community and recently exhibited a collection of his work at The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre in Chorlton. He returns to the turntables at The Garden Bar for a rare DJ appearance – bringing with him the same energy, style and cultural flair that define his artwork. Expect an assortment of soul, funk, indie, hip hop, dance and a few unexpected gems for good measure.

This event is part of The Garden Bar’s new programme of curated music, comedy and community-led nights, following its relaunch as a family-run neighbourhood bar and restaurant. With a refreshed look and a new events calendar featuring comedy, music, quizzes and themed-food evenings, The Garden Bar is fast becoming one of Chorlton‘s most welcoming social hubs.
“I’m very happy to be back DJing in Chorlton,” said Stan. “The Garden Bar is a fantastic local spot, and I’ll be playing a mix of my favourite tracks, some old classics and a few surprises. DJing has always been a big part of my life, and it’s a joy to share that with a friendly crowd in such a creative space.”
Jess Anderson, Manager of The Garden Bar, added: “As one of our regulars, we’re thrilled that Stan will be bringing some of his record collection for us all to hear. His DJ night comes straight off the back of brilliant guest slots with Jeff Hordley [aka Emmerdale‘s Cain Dingle] and James Cartwright [aka Coronation Street‘s Theo Silverton], and we’re expecting more of the same with Stan as guest DJ – we can’t wait to see the energy he brings.”
BRITs Art Trail

Look out for the BRITs Art Trail across Manchester, curated by Stanley Chow, which brings together more than 20 local artists to transform parts of the Northern Quarter and Ancoats into an open-air gallery as part of the wider celebrations around the BRIT Awards and BRITs Fringe. The trail features murals, window installations and other public displays celebrating the city’s creativity and musical heritage.
