King Street has slowly been developing as not only a premium part of the city for shopping, but one where Mancs can drink, dine and party, too – much like its Northern Quarter and Spinningfields counterparts. Once dominated by upscale hopefuls such as Jamie’s Italian and All Bar One, the perfectly manicured street has maintained its luxury element over the years, albeit, with a Mancunian twist.
Welcoming famous Naples-born pizzeria L’antica Pizzeria de Michele in recent months, alongside Flight Club and the nearby Habas (a contemporary Middle Eastern experience), Sonata will be the latest business to help shape the future of King Street, bringing a pinch of New York class to the area.
Described as a “friendly bar with a cabaret club vibe”, Sonata – which is set to open this week – is set to bring a simple, yet unique concept to the city, acting as a piano and cabaret bar where live music lovers can wind down with a drink. Offering live music every night, the programme promises to have something for everyone – including singers, pianists and cabaret artists from across the UK and beyond.
In true New York piano bar style, guests will be able to enjoy full table service, with plenty of delicious drinks on offer and the addition of cheese and charcuterie to nibble on, too.
Revamping the venue into a speakeasy-style bar, guests will enter through a hidden door down the alleyway, which will lead them to a set of stairs that descends into a classic-yet-contemporary prohibition-inspired bar.
Dale Bassett, founder of Sonata Piano & Cabaret Lounge, said: “I am so excited to be creating a unique addition to Manchester’s nightlife and legendary music scene, and in a completely new and custom-designed venue.
“Sonata is more than just a bar – it’s a special place to relax and feel at home while you enjoy the piano and song that take centre-stage. Whether you discover something new or enjoy an old favourite, I will be hand-picking our performers to make sure you have a memorable night.
“Sonata has been my lifelong dream, and to bring it to life in the city I love is such a privilege. I can’t wait to share my passion and our fantastically talented artists with our guests.”
Sonata opens this Thursday 23rd June and you can reserve a table here.
