We all know how important it is to make reading accessible, and in fact, literature has really become cool in popular culture. Now, book-lovers are being welcomed into a new kind of book club at Side Street in Manchester, which has announced an exciting partnership with The Read Room, an innovative and elevated book club experience.
The collaborative event will take place on Monday 22nd April, marking the beginning of a monthly series that will blend literature, culture, and nightlife. The Read Room offers a unique approach to the traditional book club, and we’d go so far as to say it has created a ‘boozy book club‘.
Described as a ‘reverse book club,’ each event begins with an excerpt reading from the featured title – often unreleased, by the authors themselves. Attendees receive a signed copy of the book to take home, along with a curated goodie bag.
The evening begins in Side Space at Side Street, with a live reading and author introduction. Guests are then welcomed into the main bar for drinks, discussion, music, and the opportunity to connect and mingle in a relaxed yet sophisticated setting.
Kya Buller and Sophia Wild, Co-Founders of The Read Room, said: “The Read Room was created to offer something new – a space that’s both sophisticated and inclusive. We are passionate about creating a community where literature meets the energy of city nightlife, and where all attendees have the opportunity to experience being part of a community.
“We’re working with both major publishers and independents to ensure a wide range of literary genres, so that there will be something for everyone.”
Designed to appeal to a wide and diverse audience, the event is open and accessible to all. The aim is to establish a regular, recognisable cultural gathering, that fosters community, and reimagines the way literature is experienced in urban settings.
Each event will be hosted on a weekday evening (Tuesday or Wednesday), with a new venue and theme revealed monthly. With tickets selling quickly, interest is strong and early booking is advised – find tickets here.
