Returning after huge success last year, the Manchester Animation Festival will be showcasing some of the finest animation work in person, with sessions taking place across the city. Kicking off this November with over 100 events such as screenings, panels, workshops, masterclasses, Making Of and studio talks, the festival will also be the first opportunity for Mancunian fans of cult favourite film Scott Pilgrim to feast their eyes on the new animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
There is plenty for animation enthusiasts to get involved in with this year’s festival, and those looking to see the preview of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off are in for a treat. Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her – then things get even more complicated.
Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley, many will remember the 2010 Edgar Wright film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, boasting an all-star cast including Michael Cera, Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans, but not many are well-versed in the graphic novel source material. Scott Pilgrim was seemingly always meant to be animated.
The Netflix animated production of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off previews at Manchester Animation Festival on Thursday 16 November, before its official release on Netflix on Friday 17 November. The series includes starring voices from big names in the 2010 film, including Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers and Brie Larson as Envy Adams, making the series particularly attractive to original fans of both the graphic novels and the film.
The preview of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will be held at HOME Manchester on Thursday 16 November at 6.30pm. If you’re interested in Manchester Animation Festival and seeing Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, you can find festival tickets and more information here.
