The Rylands building on Market Street has long been an iconic building. The Art Deco style is characteristic of the area and era and for years it stood as the huge Debenhams department store, but since it closed its doors back in 2023, the Rylands building is set to be revived, with the Market Place Food Hall heading our way.
The London-born food hall brand known for its epic eats, killer cocktails, and late-night energy is making its Northern debut in the heart of the city – and it’s going big.

Landing at Rylands on Market Street, bold, multi-use cultural hub Market Place Manchester will serve up 14,200 sq ft of pure foodie paradise. We’re talking global street food from 14 top-notch independent traders, DJs spinning until late, pool tables, cocktails on tap, free soft serve and a buzzing atmosphere from midday to midnight.
Rylands in Manchester will be the fifth venue for Market Place (with locations in Peckham, Vauxhall, Harrow and St Paul’s), but the first outside the capital, kicking off a brand new northern expansion adventure.

Blake Henderson, Managing Director of Market Place said: “We’ve had our eye on Manchester for a long time. It’s a city that thrives on creativity, culture and community, which is exactly what we’re all about.
“Our goal has always been to create inclusive, high-energy spaces that celebrate independent food vendors. This opening is just the beginning of our Northern journey, and we couldn’t be more excited to get started in the capital of the North.”
Market Place Manchester will feature multiple kitchens serving dishes from around the globe, plus a bar pouring ice-cold beers, cocktails and signature drinks to keep the party going from lunch ’til late.
