Part of the charm of living so close to so much gorgeous countryside here in the North West is driving through said countryside, often before or after an adventurous hike. Now, one of our very own has been named one of the UK’s most scenic road trips, and we can understand why.
Using data from RAC, the House of Bruar team has compiled a seed list of famous driving routes across the UK and ranked how scenic each one is for a summer road trip, based on the number of Instagram hashtags for each route.
Snake Pass named one of the most scenic driving routes in the UK

Taking eighth place with an impressive 22,600 hashtags is Snake Pass in the Peak District, just on our doorstep.
Following the A57, this route crosses the Pennines, starting in the market town of Glossop and ending near the Ladybower Reservoir just outside Sheffield. It’s a favourite among driving enthusiasts thanks to its tight corners, steep gradients, and uninterrupted views of the open moorland.
As you navigate the twisting roads, the scenery is dominated by the wild beauty of the Dark Peak mountain range. The drive offers sweeping views across the Derwent Valley and the surrounding National Trust High Peak estate.
While it takes more focus behind the wheel than some of the others in this list, passengers are treated to some of the most stunning, heather-filled landscapes in northern England.
Anglesey Coastal Path named one of the most scenic driving routes in the UK

Somewhat spoiled for choice, Anglesey Coastal Path was also included in the list, giving us another stunning option accessible from the North West. Although slightly further afield, you can reach Anglesey in around two hours from Greater Manchester, and once you reach the Isle, you’ll be rewarded with the entire coastline in one drive.
You’ll hit scenic landmarks in Holyhead, Church Bay and catch a glimpse of the iconic Menai Strait, with sea views for the entire journey. With plenty of friendly stop-offs including pubs, beaches and stunning walks, it’s perfect for a summer’s day, and you can even catch sight of Ireland across the water when you hit the west.
