With so many lovely parks and gardens within the city centre and the wider Greater Manchester, there’s so much for us to enjoy out and about. Now, one of our very own, RHS Garden Bridgewater, has been named in the top 10 best gardens in the UK – and we can see why.
The outdoor experts at Millets analysed annual visitors, admission costs, Google reviews and opening hours to reveal the UK’s best gardens to explore. With Easter looming, the research has come just in time, and representing Greater Manchester is RHS Garden Bridgewater.
RHS Garden Bridgewater was named the 10th highest rated garden in the UK, with a Google Review score of 4.6, and an overall garden score of 7.49/10. Consisting of 154 acres to explore in Salford, the garden was a long time in the making – with approval originally given for the new site way back in 2017.
Since then, over 700 volunteers have got their green fingers dirty to make the garden happen, offering both their time and care to bring the green space to life in beautiful Worsley.
The first-ever RHS Garden to be located in an urban area, the Worsley garden features ‘cutting-edge’ design by RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winners alongside numerous dedicated community spaces, including a Kitchen Garden by award-winning Harris Bugg Studio where you’ll find both familiar and more unusual edibles growing within its soils.
Featuring multiple areas throughout to explore, including the ‘crown jewel’ of the site – the 11-acre Weston Walled Garden – guests won’t be at a loss for beautiful sights, with tons of greenery, blooms, a peaceful lake and a number of lovely little ponds to potter around, as well as seasonal flowers and plants that transform throughout the year.
Cambridge University Botanic Garden took the top spot with an impressive score of 9.94 out of 10, followed by Horniman Museum and Gardens in London and Scotland’s Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
