Though domestic rules for Covid have been removed across England, what does remain are the last few rules for travelling. These include the requirement to fill out a passenger locater form, and the need for unvaccinated travellers to take tests upon arrival.
From next week, however, both of these could be a thing of the past, with ministers weighing up the idea of scrapping the rules in a cabinet meeting next week.
It is expected that passenger locater forms will be removed, with current rules stating that details must be filled out within 72-hours of arriving to the UK. Multiple countries across Europe, such as Greece and Belgium, have scrapped this requirement. The form asks travellers to provide details including flight numbers, phone numbers and address.
While vaccinated travellers are no longer required to take Covid tests (as of last month) on arrival, those who haven’t had the vaccine are still asked to take a rapid pre-departure test and a PCR test on day two. These rules, however, could also be scrapped next week
While these are not confirmed yet, the end of the passenger locater forms is expected to go through following the meeting next week, and the changes for unvaccinated travellers are also being considered. Should these changes go through, it will provide a major boost to the travel industry ahead of the Easter holidays.
As always, be sure to check for any Covid rules where you are travelling, as they may differ from the requirements in the UK.
