After Peter Kay’s quiet exit from the limelight back in 2017, the Bolton funnyman is returning to the stage with a new stand-up tour, with multiple shows taking place in Manchester, more of which were recently added after the gig’s great success so far. The comedian known for both his stand-up comedy and TV programme Peter Kay’s Car Share, which he wrote and starred in, will be returning to the stage for a nation-wide tour spanning throughout the whole of 2023, 2024 and beyond.
During an ad break in the series launch of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Peter Kay was seen carrying a rolled-up carpet into a house while confirming to nearby fans he will return to stand-up comedy next month. The satirical video was also published on Peter Kay’s social media accounts announcing the news of the tour, which kicked off from December 2 at Manchester’s AO Arena.
The dates will mark Kay’s first live tour since 2010, when he scored the Guinness World Record for the biggest selling stand-up tour of all time, playing to more than 1.2 million people. The tour will see Peter Kay perform in major cities such as Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Belfast, Newcastle, Dublin, Glasgow, Cardiff and Nottingham. Plus Peter Kay has announced a monthly London residency at The O2 has been added to his national arena tour.
In a statement, the comic said: “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy, and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now. And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35 – the same price they were on my previous tour in 2010.”
Although Peter Kay has kept a low profile over the years, he notably returned to the stage in August 2021 for two special charity events to raise money for Laura Nuttall, a then 20-year-old with an aggressive type of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme.
The comedian has recently revealed more shows coming to Manchester (totalling 41 gigs) at the AO Arena up until June 2025, which will take place on the following dates:
- 2023 – September 22 & 23, October 19 & 20, November 5 & 6, December 1 & 2
