This Northern Quarter Bar Offers Bottomless Plates Of Brunch Every Month · The Pen and Pencil

By Laura Rogan February 27, 2020

It’s the bottomless brunch you know and love already… But on steroids!

Situated in the heart of the Northern Quarter, The Pen and Pencil has long been a spot to frequent, with a relaxed, all-day and all-night vibe. Featuring stripped-back decor, exposed brick, simple wooden tables and brown leather furnishings, the venue is the epitome of NQ style. Expect great music from disco to 70s funk, great pints and delicious, fuss-free grub.

While the bar serves brunch every day, the last Saturday of every month delivers a special brunch event. Taking the traditional bottomless brunch that can be found at every corner of the city, The Pen and Pencil go one step further with their offering. It’s the perfect way to start the day… If you can handle it, that is.

The event offers bottomless brunch for three hours, which is double the time of your typical brunch – and not only do guests receive bottomless bevs, but the food also comes on an all-you-can-eat basis. If you think you can stomach it, the event kicks off at 10am till 1pm with free-flowing prosecco, mimosas, Amstel, Bloody Marys and their very own special brunch cocktail.

Brunch plates are made to order, with guests allowed to order a new plate of food as soon as their previous one is finished – giving you time to make room for that additional plate! Their diverse menu gives plenty to try, too, with seven plates to taste during your three-hour session. Choose from avocado, feta and eggs on sourdough bread, smoky beans on toast, Eggs Royale, Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine, steak and eggs and American style pancakes topped with fruit compote or bacon and maple syrup.

While you might be tempted to think the portions will arrive small to allow you to pack more away, you’d be mistaken. Each plate is generously portioned, challenging you for that next plate of grub. The whole occasion costs just £40pp for all the free-flow food and drinks you can manage, a great saving when you consider how easy it can be to rack up the bill with cocktails.

The event takes place on a monthly basis on the last Saturday of every month and pre-booking is essential.

In addition to their monthly brunch, The Pen and Pencil serves a New York-inspired menu for every meal of the day including burgers, hot dogs, steak, ciabatta sandwiches and a £5 lunch menu. DJs play on weekends, while craft beer and cocktails flow til 2am.

The Pen and Pencil can be found at Fourways House, 57 Hilton St, Manchester, M1 2EJ, open from 10am-late daily.
