Now, some may think it’s all pies t’up North but there is so much more on offer when it comes to delicious food in the North West region. But don’t get me wrong, the pies are also top notch here. Home to proper good grub and some Michelin star restaurants, further proof of just how outstanding the region’s food is has come to light in the form of a recent ranking from La Liste, which has recognised the North West for having not one, not two, but seven of the best restaurants in the whole world.
The list features 1,000 of the best restaurants from all around the world. To create the list, La Liste scanned through “thousands of publications, hundreds of guidebooks, and millions of online reviews”. Using all of this writing they standardise all of the scoring and opinions before weighting them based on trustworthiness and expertise, and assigning each venue a final La Liste score out of 100.
However, it seems La Liste hasn’t quite discovered the great food scene in Manchester, with all seven of the North West restaurants in the list being located in the likes of Lancashire and Cumbria. The list also does feature a fair few prestigious and expensive restaurants too, many of which have accolades like Michelin stars.
A total of 75 restaurants from the UK made the top 1,000, with the North West’s own, L’Enclume by Simon Rogan in Cartmel, making it into the top five restaurants in the world. However two dining spots that made the list, Northcote in Langho and Moor Hall in Aughton, are just over an hour away from Manchester to visit.
Other noteworthy North West spots that made the best restaurants in the world list were Allium – Askham Hall in Penrith, as well as three dining destinations in Ambleside, The Forest Side, The Old Stamp House and Lake Road Kitchen.
