It was the series that launched a (hundred) thousand Netflix subscriptions and the paved the way for gripping documentaries like The Staircase, The Keepers and Evil Genius.

Filmed over a 10-year period, Making a Murderer told the story of a DNA exoneree who, while in the midst of exposing corruption in local law enforcement, found himself the prime suspect in a grisly new crime.

Now, nearly three years after the series first premiered, we’ve finally been given a series two trailer and a release date.

A spokesman for Netflix said the series will return on October 19 and will see the now Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos return to the Midwest, where they will have exclusive access to Steven Avery and his co-defendant and nephew Brendan Dassey, along with their families and the legal teams fighting for justice on their behalf.

Over the course of 10 new episodes, Making a Murderer Part 2 will provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes postconviction process, exploring the emotional toll the process takes on all involved.
