The Grade II-listed New Century House – a 1960’s building originally built for the Co-operative Insurance Society – is potentially being transformed into Manchester’s newest luxury hotel.
Situated in the growing NOMA neighbourhood (short for North Manchester), the new hotel is set to bolster the area further, bringing not only rooms for visitors to enjoy, but food and drink, too – which will complement existing businesses in the area such as New Century Hall and Skof.
The 14-storey building built in a Modernist style will be known as New Century House hotel, and consist of 196 plush bedrooms, with many of the cities highlights on its doorstep – including the AO Arena, Arndale centre, Printworks and more.
If that wasn’t all, the hotel will also boast a rooftop bar and restaurant, which promises fantastic views of the surrounding city centre. It’s not known what we can expect food and drink-wise from the upcoming venue, however, CGI images show the potential for floor-to-ceiling glass walls providing little distraction from the views.
The proposed hotel would also include conference and leisure facilities in the basement of the building.
The area is fast becoming one of Manchester’s most popular, with popular rental community Moda, New Century Hall, Pot Kettle Black and employers such as Amazon, The Co-operative Group and Adanola in the neighbourhood.
Dan Hyde, Development Director at MEPC, developer and asset manager at NOMA said:”New Century House is a Manchester landmark and we believe now is the right time to bring it back to life as a hotel. It’s a natural next step for our growing neighbourhood with the building located either side of BNY at 4 Angel Square and the destination venue of New Century Hall.”
Jeremy Collins of Jenics added: “Manchester has huge international visitor pull thanks to its global connectivity, world-leading universities and sporting and cultural assets. New Century House is a rare and outstanding opportunity and will be a tremendous addition to Manchester’s visitor economy offer, both from a business and leisure perspective.
“NOMA has adopted a flexible approach to secure a ‘best fit’ occupier by way of either a virtual freehold sale or lease disposal. This approach will drive positive interest from a range of operators.”
