Mughli has been serving authentic Punjabi cuisine on Rusholme’s landmark ‘Curry Mile’ since 1991 but now the restaurant is heading to Manchester city centre. After more than 30 years of business, Mughli is getting ready to open their first city centre location inside the highly-anticipated House of Social later this year.
Mughli is a family-run, second generation Indian soul food restaurant, first opened by local legend, the late “Uncle Peter”. Now owned by his sons, who have put their own stamp on the business, the Mughli team are looking forward to doing it all again in their new venture at House of Social.
Shaz Arshad, one of the brothers leading the Manchester based group, which also includes Evelyn’s and Gooey, said of the new venture: “We’ve always had a lot of love from Manchester city centre throughout the years, and it’s great to be able to bring it home to House of Social. We’ve looked at a lot of sites and spots; this has been on the cards for a long time and finally we’ve found somewhere which we feel matches our aspirations.”
The Mughli menu at House of Social takes inspiration from their original menu at their flagship restaurant on Wilmslow Road, with tried and tested favourites, as well as crowd pleasers from their various pop-ups and collaborations over the years. In the kitchen they aim to bring their Indian Soul Food of grilled meats and home-style curries to the new operation.
House of Social, the new development by Jake Atkinson, the former operations manager of Mackie Mayor, The Picturedrome and Altrincham Market, will house five independent kitchens under one big roof. Set to open in the First Street area of the city, the venue aims to showcase the eclectic Manchester food and drink scene, featuring regional long-standing favourites and growing businesses.
Further kitchens at House of Social will be announced in the upcoming months.
