Tapas bar Maricarmen, famed for its £3.50 tapas offering, has become quite the hotspot – with authentic tapas in a gorgeous, yet lesser-trodden area of Manchester. Now, to celebrate one year on Great Ancoats Street, Maricarmen is giving away a whole load of their popular croquettes for free, alongside what’s set to be a gorgeous afternoon of sunny celebrations.
Originally a pop-up located in Cocoa Cabana, Maricarmen quickly became an Ancoats favourite amongst locals taking a permanent unit on Great Ancoats Street in June 2024 – and now the team is celebrating one year of fabulous tapas with a weekend of giveaways.
On Friday 20th and Saturday 21st June between 4.30pm and 7.30pm (in the 30 degree sunshine) Maricarmen will be giving away 1,000 free croquettes in celebration of turning one!
On the menu is Jamon Ibérico, Cabrales (Asturian blue cheese) and truffle croquettes – all served complimentary to the good people of Manchester during the weekend of great weather ahead.
How do I get free croquettes at Maricarmen?
It’s simple! Just swing by Maricarmen’s outdoor terrace on Friday 20th or Saturday 21st June between 4.30pm and 7.30pm, where the team has created a pop-up croquette bar, and grab your croquetas to go!
Opening for one Sunday afternoon only, the doors to Maricarmen (and outdoor terrace) will be wide open to the public from 3.30pm with a £1 tapas offer for guests on Sunday 22nd June – so if you miss out on the freebies, this is definitely the next best thing. Stickers under the plates will reveal £1 dishes as part of the El Tableo service, and guests can also enjoy live music and Flamenco performances throughout the afternoon. ¡Olé!
Famed for its £3.50 tapas plates, Maricarmen operates the service know as ‘El Tableo‘ where tapas is served to your table on a large tray for selection rather than from a menu – a traditional tapas service from Southern Spain, which owners Marian Diaz and Jose Nunez operated in Madrid before moving to Manchester in 2020.
The pair have certainly made waves in Manchester, and we’ll be forever grateful that they brought their wonderful culture to our neck of the woods. Bookings can be made here and walk-ins are welcome too.
