Having endured plummeting temperatures after what felt like the start of spring, it’s safe to say we’re absolutely ready for the official start of spring here in Manchester. Now, not to get too excited, but the Met Office is predicting that Manchester could be that little bit warmer than holiday favourite Ibiza on Thursday 20th March, which is the spring equinox…
The Met Office is forecasting highs of around 19°C at 3pm on Thursday in Manchester. This means, Manchester will actually be warmer than Ibiza, as the Balearic island is set to peak at 18°C.
What’s more, Friday is also looking hot hot hot, with highs of 20°C forecast in Manchester! Overnight from Wednesday into Thursday, the Met Office states: “Staying dry with light winds and mostly clear and starry skies overnight. Turning chilly across the region, with a patchy frost in rural spots. Minimum temperature 2°C.”
Into Thursday, the Met Office continues: “Dry, warm and sunny on Thursday with light winds. Plenty of strong sunshine, although high level cloud will turn the sunshine hazy at times.”
In all fairness, Ibiza is set to be in blazing sun for a fair amount of the day on Thursday, whereas Manchester will be blessed with more sunny intervals to keep us warm – but honestly, we’ll take any bit of sunshiiiiine we get. Of course, most people’s (including ours) first thoughts will go to how to make the most of this slightly warmer weather, and Manchester is pretty well-prepared.
If you’re anything like us, the sunny weather will get you out in a beer garden, and whether it’s a Northern Quarter haunt, Spinningfields rooftop or a canal side spot, the bars and pubs of Manchester are fully prepared. If you’re being slightly more wholesome than us, why not find a lovely walking route or park near you? Stop off for a coffee – preferably iced – and pretend it’s hotter than the frankly tropical feeling 19°C we’re expecting… it’s only right.
