It’s been a bit dark and gloomy recently – both weather and football wise. However, one thing that is set to come home is sunshine and warmer temperatures with Manchester predicted to have a mini heatwave this week.
Like much of Europe right now, things are expected to hot up here in Manchester with temperatures as high as 27ºC on the horizon. So grab your sunscreen, hat and shades quick because in true Manchester style the nice weather won’t be sticking around for long.
Today (Thursday 19th July), temperatures are predicted to reach as high as 25ºC, however tomorrow (Friday 20th July) things are expected to get a bit hotter with highs of 27ºC and described as a “warm and dry day for many with plentiful amounts of sunshine” by the Met Office.
So, why are we getting this mini-heatwave? According to Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth: “For the last few weeks, we’ve been on the northern side of the jet stream and over the next few days, its position will change. It becomes a more amplified pattern, diving down well to the south of the UK and taking low pressure systems up to the north and west of the UK.
“But, as we head towards the weekend, Sunday most likely, will see the return of the stronger jet core to affect the UK, meaning it is going to turn a bit more unsettled and certainly cooler again.” We said it wouldn’t be around for long.
On Saturday 21st July, temperatures will start go down with highs of 23ºC with sunny intervals changing to overcast by late morning. Then on Sunday 22nd July, it will be “drier, brighter and feeling fresher” across the North West with highs of 19ºC − so the ‘mini’ part of ‘mini heatwave’ is definitely something to consider in Manchester.
So go on, get yourself to a beer garden, terrace, rooftop bar or even the beach – summer is here! Even if it lasts for just two days…
