Organisers of the adidas Manchester Marathon have announced that its 2027 race has already reached capacity in just 10 days – making it the quickest time it has ever sold out of public places. All marathon places were taken two months earlier than the previous edition, despite offering an increased number of spots.
The sell-out follows another record-breaking year in 2026, where 42,000 participants took to the streets of Greater Manchester, cheered on by more than 150,000 spectators who lined the route from start to finish. The adidas Manchester Marathon is the second biggest marathon in the UK and the fourth largest in Europe.

How can I take part in the 2027 Manchester Marathon?
Whilst public entries have now sold out, organisers have said there is still a chance to be on the start line, with limited places available through the event’s official charities. These charities include Alzheimer’s Society, British Heart Foundation, The Christie, Cancer Research UK, and Mind, and offer people the opportunity to take part whilst raising funds for great causes.

The 2026 event raised a record £5.2 million, with 2027 set to raise the bar once again. In addition, over £70,000 is expected to be pledged to local initiatives in 2026 through the Manchester Marathon Community Fund, which receives a portion of every entry fee to support projects across Greater Manchester.

Manchester Marathon’s flat course makes it perfect for personal bests
Over four in 10 of 2027 participants are set to take on the 26.2-mile distance for the first time, and 77% of 2026 participants said they achieved a personal best time. Famous for its flat course and friendly atmosphere, the adidas Manchester Marathon is run by some of the world’s greatest elite runners, right through to those who thought completing a marathon would never be possible.

Andrew Smith, CEO of adidas Manchester Marathon organisers A.S.O. UK, said: “Word gets around, and the adidas Manchester Marathon has become a true highlight in the running calendar, and the numbers back that up. We’re proud to welcome everyone to this event, from first-time challengers to experienced veterans and some of Europe’s top athletes. Thanks to everybody who is supporting this special event, and we can’t wait to bring even more benefits to Manchester and so many great causes.”
London Marathon has also sold out with a record-breaking 1.33 million ballot entries.
