May marches in bringing with it more wonderful things to do in Manchester – here’s our pick.
Spring is in full swing which means summer is practically here! And although it’s not quite beer garden weather, there’s still plenty to keep us occupied in Manchester this month.
1. Try Abert Schloss’ Manchester-Inspired Pilsner
Over the past few years, Albert’s Schloss has made a name for itself in the rainy city for
providing an unrivalled selection of Bavarian biers to the people of Manchester. Now
the bohemian bier palace is taking all its learnings and putting its own stamp on
the bier scene.
Albert’s Schloss ‘Bier Masters’ have created a fresh and unpasteurised Bavarian-style
pilsner made in accordance with Reinheitsgebot – the German bier purity law. Made with

2. See Some Of The Rarest Trainers In The World At Crepe City (May 4)
Crepe City, the leading trainer event in Europe, will return to Manchester’s Brickworks, just off St Ann’s Square, on Saturday (May 4). Bringing with it more than 150 traders who will be showcasing some of the rarest and most in-demand sneakers in the world.
And this year two thousand people are expected to attend the event, which will have a bar, bespoke trainer cleaning service and dedicated chill-out area with footwear panel discussions. 3. Visit Manchester’s Beach (May 4)
On The Beach’s Great Northern Summer, a full season of family-friendly activities in Great Northern Square – including, giant sandpit – will launch with a Mancunian May Fair on Saturday (May 4).
The spectacular sandpit, complete with 50 tonnes of sand, wood rounds and a giant deckchair, will return to the warehouse’s iconic amphitheatre following thousands of visits from families during summer 2018. For more information click here.
4. Play Some Retro Arcade Games At This Massive Video Games Festival (May 4 and 5)
The event will feature 1,000 free-to-play gaming screens with a huge range of games from retro favourites like Pac-Man and Mario right the way up to current blockbusters like Fortnite
and Minecraft. The show also celebrates all elements of the gaming industry with a host of cosplayers, tournaments, industry guests and even careers advice for those looking to work in the

5. Drink All The Tequila At Margarita Rumble (May 5)
Did someone say tequila? Get ready to fiesta like there’s no mañana at Margarita Rumble, where there’ll be amazing mixologists serving up the best margaritas in town. 6. Take An Art Lesson While You Drink (May 5)
Since 2013, the mission of PopUp Painting has been to bring art out of the classroom and gallery and into the places people meet on a day-to-day basis. PopUp Painting is inviting budding artists to unleash their creativity – drink in one hand, paintbrush in the other!
The event will be themed around Annie Dalton‘s Banksy inspired Flying Balloon Girl and no experience is needed. Attendees will be guided step by step by a practising artist, while they sip, paint and create their way to becoming an artist for the night! To book your place click here.
7. Get A Drink From The World’s First Cocktail Vending Machine (May 10)
The world’s first ever cocktail vending machine is coming to Manchester as part of a national tour. Whisky brand The Woodsman has created the machine, which has been designed to pour Old Fashioned cocktails, free of charge.
The wooden vending machine will be at the food and retail destination Hatch, based beneath Mancunian Way, from May 10. And customers will be able to mix their own whisky-based cocktail by pulling on a series of levers and wheels, creating the perfect Old Fashioned in a flash. Click here for more information.
8. The Greatest Showman Sing-Along Club Night (May 10)
musical fans are invited to celebrate the phenomenon that is The Greatest Showman in the best possible way, with a sing-along club night dedicated to the hits from the musical. The event will see the O2 Ritz transformed into a Big Top with full club decor as well as a balloon drop, confetti explosions and stage pyrotechnics guaranteed to make you go Woah Woah Woah Woah Woah.
Revellers will be able to dance the night away to all the hits from the movie and join the sing along with giant stage screens playing the songs and scenes from the movie including The Greatest Showman, This Is Me, Never Enough and From Now On. 9. Sample All The Gins At The Gin To My Tonic Festival (May 10 and 11)
Manchester may run on coffee, but it certainly relaxes on gin. So when a gin festival rolls into town, you just know we’re going to be there. The Gin To My Tonic festival will set up shop in Gorton Monastery, with tipples gathered from across the UK and Europe. Meaning you’ll be able to sample the best of Spain, France, and the USA without needing your passports.
The festival will also welcome a range of fruit-flavoured gins, giving you the chance to wet their whistle with strawberry & black pepper, violet, and raspberry & cardamom gins. Get your tickets here.
10. Sing Along With The Greatest Showman While You Enjoy Bottomless Drinks And Popcorn (May 11)
This is definitely the greatest show. Fans will be able to watch The Greatest Showman in an immersive environment, with free drink flowing throughout the whole film and bottomless popcorn.
The event will take place in a secret location in Manchester city centre, which will be transformed into a circus where each guest will be treated to a private table with waiter service for the duration of the film, while they belt out those award-winning hits. 11. Visit Europe’s Biggest Yoga Show (May 11 and 12)
The OM Yoga Show will return to Manchester’s Event City and promises to be the most relaxing weekend of the year. Whether you’re just taking your first steps on your yoga journey, or you’ve been practising for years, you’ll be in the very best of hands at the OM Yoga Show.

12. Visit The Cutest Cafe In Manchester (May 19)
Following the phenomenal, but unsurprising, success of the Frenchie and dachshund cafes the team at Pug Cafe would like to invite Pomeranians (and Pomeranian fans) to visit their pop-up cafe. Hosted by The Refinery Spinningfields, organisers are promising a dedicated doggy menu including PUPcakes, DOGnuts, POMpops, PAWsecco and PAW Star Martinis.
And the puns don’t stop there, every Pom will also receive a free Pupuccino, while humans will be able to tuck into some delicious food and drinks, all with a seriously cute side of cuddles from attending Pomeranians. Find out how to get tickets here.
13. Sing Along With Mamma Mia While You Enjoy Bottomless Drinks And Popcorn (May 25)
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme another glass of bottomless fizz! Due to phenomenal demand, another date has been added for the best sing-along experience this side of Greece. On May 25 Abba fans will be able to watch Mamma Mia in an immersive environment, with free drink flowing throughout the whole film and bottomless popcorn available in five tasty flavours.

14-17. Go To The Pictures
May 3 sees the release of the curiously-awaited Ted Bundy biopic, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, featuring Zac Efron. Meanwhile, the bizarre live-action crime-fighting Pokémon movie Detective Pikachu, starring Ryan Reynolds, is released on May 10. (Watch the trailer here.) Also released on May 10 is High Life; an abstract sci-fi film about sex experiments in space starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche and Andre 3000… obviously. Oh and also!
