Ahead of the early May bank holiday, us Mancs are set to get a treat as some warm, sunny weather is coming our way this week. The temperature in Manchester is set to rise from tomorrow (April 29) to a whopping 25°C – meaning it’s cracking flags and the shorts, caps and SPF can come out. But would you believe it, Manchester is set to be hotter than the sunny summer holiday destination of Crete!
On Tuesday 29th May, Manchester is predicted to experience “another fine day with plenty of warm sunshine after any early morning mist has cleared”. The city is expected to experience highs of 25ºC and lows of 11ºC, remaining settled with light winds, for three days straight (Tuesday 29th April to Thursday 1st May).
The Met Office’s outlook for Wednesday to Friday, says “High pressure dominating bringing widely fine and settled weather. Bright and sunny with temperatures climbing well above average. Cloudier on Thursday, and slightly cooler on Friday.”

However, for those in the likes of sunny Chania in Crete, the Greek island is predicted to experience highs of 15ºC meaning Manchester will be hotter than the holiday destination for once. But, the weather in Crete is expected to improve later in the week with highs of 18ºC and 19ºC the following days, then 24ºC on Sunday (May 4), plus the holiday spot still has its beautiful beaches…
Alas, all good things must come to an end and after Saturday (May 3), the temperature in Manchester is expected to gradually decrease meaning Crete will be back to being hotter than us. Following the very warm spell through the week, temperatures are most likely to return back closer to average, with some possible some spells of wetter weather according to meteorologist predictions. Manchester will experience highs of 17ºC with sunny intervals on bank holiday Monday (May 5) compared to sunshine and highs of 25ºC in Chania, Crete.

So, enjoy the sunshine and warmth in Manchester whilst you can! This week, slap on the SPF (UV levels are set to be high) and head to a beer garden, your nearest beach or park with a pint, cocktail or ice cream in hand. Summer has arrived early…
