‘Tis the season of Yuletide joy and festive cheer, but it’s also the time to brag shamelessly and lord it over Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, and the rest – because a new study has confirmed that Manchester Christmas Market is the best Christmas market in the UK. The people at holiday cottage rentals My Favourite Cottages have crunched the numbers, and officially installed our own festive celebrations in its rightful place atop the Christmas market podium. A very Merry Christmas indeed!
They analysed over 30 UK markets on criteria such as the number of stalls, the running time, the number of visitors, the entrance fee, and – most importantly – your chances of meeting the big SC* himself, and the results were clear. With a score of 8.39 out of 10, Manchester Christmas Market nabbed the top spot for 2021, and can now serve up gallons of festive cheer content in the knowledge that it’s the best around.
Having visited the city every year (except 2020, blergh) since 1999, the Manchester Christmas Market scored highly based on the vast number of stalls, and the six weeks of running time, which nudged it ahead of Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market to take first place. Over 9 million visitors are thought to have attended back in 2019, and after a year that was pretty light on Christmas cheer, we’re expecting big numbers this time around too. So, will you be paying a visit to the nation’s best Christmas market this year? I think we all know the answer…
* Santa Claus, obviously.
