Manchester Airport is about to get a major public transport boost, with TransPennine Express (TPE) introducing new overnight services from Sunday May 17.
TransPennine Express (TPE) is set to introduce a new timetable to and from Manchester Airport
The move will create a near-hourly link between Manchester Piccadilly and the airport throughout the day and night, making travel easier for early-morning flyers and late-night arrivals.
TPE says the timetable change will add eight new services, helping to strengthen connectivity to the UK’s third-busiest airport. The update is part of a wider national rail timetable change taking effect on the same date.
Trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport will run roughly every hour, all day, every day
Under the new timetable, trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport will run roughly every hour, all day, every day. That means passengers will have better options for catching red-eye flights, getting home after late arrivals, or travelling into the city at less common hours.
The changes are intended to support both leisure and business travellers, while also improving overall airport access across Greater Manchester. TPE has also said passengers should check journey details before travelling, as some planned engineering work may still affect certain services.
Extra service changes
Alongside the airport upgrade, TPE is also adding an extra weekday stop at Dewsbury on the 08.05am Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly service. The operator says that addition is designed to help students and commuters making early-morning journeys into Manchester.
There will also be additional services later in the year to support major events, with more trains running during the Edinburgh Fringe period from Monday August 3 to Friday September 4. That wider scheduling reflects TPE’s effort to match capacity with seasonal demand.
