The summer skies in Manchester have been surprisingly gorgeous this year so we will be sad to see them disappear as we get closer to autumn. With multiple heatwaves, the highest ever UK temperature recorded and a fair few evenings dining al fresco, alas the beautiful run of long nights in Manchester will come to an end, as August 31 marks the last 8pm sunset of 2025.
Yes, since April 10 (thanks to the glorious power of Daylight Savings), we’ve basked in the glow of the Manchester sun after 8pm every day, but, on the final day of August that finally comes to an end. According to data from Time and Date, the sun will go down at bang on 8pm on August 31, before calling it a night at the frankly ridiculous hour of 7.58pm the following evening (September 1).
But when will the next 8pm sunset in Manchester be? Well, I’d advise looking away from the screen now. You’ll have to wait until April 10, 2026, so be sure to make use of these last few days of sweet, sweet late sunsets. After all, sunsets have technically been getting earlier since the end of June, but this feels like the first reality check of the shorter days we have to look forward to in the latter part of 2025 (and indeed, the beginning of 2026).
The last 7pm sunset of year for Manchester will be on September 24 and the last 6pm sunset of year will take place on October 20. However, Autumn doesn’t officially begin until late-September, so let’s kick back and enjoy the rest of summer, shall we?
