Adding to a wonderful summer of festivals Kendal Calling returns to the fields again this year, announcing today a huge line-up including four headliners for 2023. Attendees at Kendal Calling will see Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Kasabian, Royal Blood and Blossoms leading the charge, along with other unmissable artists, unrivalled entertainment, and fun for all ages.
One of the UK’s most beloved festivals, set in Lowther Deer Park in the beautiful Lake District, Kendal Calling will take place from July 27-30. Festivalgoers will be treated to an epic headline set of the highest-octane-order from Kasabian, Royal Blood make their mark in the fields for the very first time and this year will see the return of Blossoms and Nile Rodgers & CHIC.
Multiple Grammy Award winning songwriter, composer, producer, arranger, and guitarist Nile Rodgers is the co-founder of CHIC, which topped the charts with hit ‘Le Freak’. His work in the CHIC Organization includes ‘We Are Family’ with Sister Sledge and ‘I’m Coming Out’ with Diana Ross and his productions for artists like David Bowie (‘Let’s Dance’), Madonna (‘Like A Virgin’) and Duran Duran (‘The Reflex’). Nile Rodgers said: “The last time we played Kendall Calling was epic and one of my favourite shows ever. We are excited to be back this year for more good times!”
Oh but there’s more to come at Kendal Calling this year with over 80 artists taking to the stage, including Kaiser Chiefs, Rick Astley, The Lathums, Frank Turner, Example, Confidence Man, Circa Waves, Beabadoobee, former Spice Girl Melanie C, The Enemy and a special Saturday guest opener from Happy Mondays. ‘Torn’ hitmaker Natalie Imbruglia will be in the Lakes to provide timeless pop classics sure to have everyone singing along to each and every word, while Scouting For Girls, no strangers to adoring festival crowds, bringing with them their timeless sing-along hits ‘She’s So Lovely’, ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’ and tons more.
Plus, you can also expect the likes of Reverend & The Makers, The Hunna, The Murder Capital, JaackMaate’s Happy Hour Live, Vistas, Kiefer Sutherland, We Are Scientists, Manchester’s Lottery Winners, Charlatans’ frontman Tim Burgess, Cassia, Rachel Chinouriri and Alice Merton. Get your dancing shoes on for dance music royalty, Annie Mac who’ll be at Kendal Calling, taking to the decks and spinning the most uplifting beats and dance-floor classics as special guest the GLOW takeover in Kendal’s upside down garden, Parklands. GLOW will also play host to producer, rapper, DJ, singer, writer and British rap royalty Mike Skinner, as well as Paul Woolford, DJ Yoda, Bklava and Krafty Kuts B2B A.Skillz.
A firm family favourite in the festival calendar, Kendal’s devoted children’s area Kids Calling returns with action packed fun for everyone this summer. From live theatre shows to giant inflatables, there is plenty to keep the little ones entertained. Of course, the festival’s theme is yet to be revealed but the Saturday parade will also be back, featuring some of the region’s finest carnival performers.
Fans can treat themselves to a luxury stay at Kendal Calling in the festival’s boutique camping village – the Deer Lodge. The luxury on site accommodation includes free car parking, clean enviro loos, free hot showers, free phone charging in the reception tent and access to a dedicated food and drink stall. Elsewhere, The Frontier offers Live-In Vehicle options boasting some home comforts whilst being in the fields as well as a more serene and secluded experience with stunning views to match.
Kendal Calling celebrated its belated 15th Anniversary in 2022 with its biggest edition to date. There were huge headline sets from Bastille, Stereophonics, Supergrass and Hacienda Classical, alongside other highlights such as Dick ‘n’ Dom tearing apart the Parklands Stage, Barrioke, the incomparable Lancashire Hotpots and Elvana and much more.
