From the traditional chippy tea to those of the fancier variety (hello, Hip Hop Chip Shop), up North we have it all. But now, diversifying the chippy scene even further, Leeds’ JJ’s Vish & Chips has rolled into town – bringing their tasty vegan fish and chips with them. Crossing the Pennines to provide our growing vegan food offering a dose of something new, the chippy has been well received by vegans since its 2019 opening in Yorkshire, and now, we can find out what the hype is all about for ourselves.
Offering takeaway only from their Ardwick-based kitchen, the chippy is 100% plant-based, replicating the traditional British meal without the typical beef dripping chips and without, of course, the usual key ingredient: fish. Animal-based ingredients are replaced with plant-based oils and fillings, including tofu and nori sheets, as well as marinated banana blossom.
Owner Jess also has plans to expand her business further in Manchester with an IRL restaurant, too.
Available on Deliveroo, UberEats and Just Eat for anyone within the M12 delivery range, the menu includes vegan takes on classic dishes such as battered sausage and chips, fish and chips, spam fritters, scampi and even deep-fried mushy peas. The chippy also stocks nostalgic fizzy pop, too, including the iconic Dandelion & Burdock.
JJ’s Vish & Chips is open Thursday-Monday from 4pm-10pm every week.
