Summer brings many joys, but few things capture the essence of the season quite like the sight and scent of blooming lavender. The rich, vibrant hues and soothing fragrance—world-renowned for its use in bath and beauty products—make for a perfect summer day out. Luckily, you don’t have to travel far from Greater Manchester to experience it.
Just a 40-minute drive away, nestled in the peaceful Rainford countryside between Wigan and St Helens, you’ll find Inglenook Farm. This family-run estate boasts a stunning, aromatic lavender field that is completely free to enter.
What to expect at Inglenook Farm

The passionate team at Inglenook Farm has cultivated a tranquil haven designed to help visitors relax and unwind.
- Wander the fields: Take a peaceful, fragrant stroll through the lavender. It’s a fantastic, refreshing day out for the whole family—and yes, dogs are welcome too!
- Onsite shops & food: After your walk, grab a bite at the onsite Cherry Orchard Tearoom. You can also browse the courtyard’s unique independent businesses, including upcycled furniture from Casa-Ancora and beautiful bespoke wreaths from The Little Green Door Company.
- See the process: While exploring the courtyard, you can actually watch the fascinating process of the farm’s lavender being distilled and transformed into essential oils and other botanical products.
When to visit & photography rules
Much like the rest of the UK, Inglenook Farm’s lavender is in peak bloom from late June through the end of August.
Because the picturesque landscape draws visitors from far and wide, the farm kindly asks that visitors refrain from taking professional photography during regular visits. However, if you want to use the stunning purple fields as a professional photoshoot backdrop, you can easily reach out to the farm to enquire about an official photography pass. Plus, phone photography is absolutely fine!
