21-year-old Henry Moores, from Macclesfield, has finished his 1,400 mile charity walk from Manchester to the Spanish party island of Ibiza, smashing his fundraising target in the process. Walking the length of a marathon each day, Henry has completed his journey from rainy Manchester to sunny Spain, an homage to what most lads his age would be getting up to (and now he’s finished, he can too!).
Henry set off two months ago, documenting his journey on TikTok, and has now raised more than £100,000 for a foundation which supports vulnerable children.
The Tony Hudgell Foundation was set up by the adoptive mum of nine-year-old Tony Hudgell, who had both legs amputated following abuse he suffered from his birth parents as a baby. Henry was welcomed in Ibiza by Tony, his family and Wayne Lineker as he finished his challenge − which saw him walk 30 miles a day.
Documenting his journey every day on Instagram, Henry said: “I’ve tackled it all – relentless rain, eerie, quiet stretches of north France, and even my fears of snakes, lizards, and spiders creeping up on me.
“But with every hurdle, I’ve found strength in the incredible support of each and every one of you. Your encouragement and generosity have fueled me through every step of this adventure.”
Although still young, Henry is no stranger to walking challenges. He completed a walk from Macclesfield to Paris late last year, ahead of which he said: “My dream is that every child in England will wake up on Christmas Day with some form of gift , every lonely elderly person will receive the attention they deserve and anyone who is vulnerable will receive the support they need this Christmas.”
This very special lad doesn’t seem to be packing in any time soon, and we can’t wait to see what he’ll accomplish next − well done Henry!
Although the mega Manchester to Ibiza walk is over, you can still donate to the cause Henry holds dear through his JustGiving page here.
