The weather has been even more of a hot topic than usual recently, with gale force winds and wild storms battering our island. Now, we have even more news because it’s not over yet – more snow, rain and strong winds are set to hit the UK, and Greater Manchester this week, with another named storm: Storm Chandra.
Over the course of this week, things are set to get particularly wet, but also cold. Tuesday 27th January is set to cover most of the country, especially the North West, with a huge amount of rain, threatening flash flooding, bringing with it some wintry flurries. Temperatures are also set to plummet to around -2ºC to -3ºC between Wednesday and Friday.

Met Office forecast for Greater Manchester
The Met Office has issued flood warnings for England, with this week’s forecast looking like:
Tonight (January 26)
Winds continue to strengthen through the evening and overnight, with rain moving in from the west. Turning heavy during the early hours with gales possible around coasts. Minimum temperature 2 °C.
Tuesday (January 27)
Heavy rain will continue for much of the morning, with some of this rain turning to snow in the higher hills. Brighter spells possible in the afternoon, but staying blustery. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Outlook for Wednesday (January 28) to Friday (January 30)
Staying unsettled through Wednesday and into Thursday with more showers, but winds easing. Possibility of some brighter spells in between with temperatures staying around the seasonal average.

The Met Office’s long range weather forecast warns: “Rain may be heavy and persistent, especially in the south and west. Whilst mild conditions are expected to encroach into the south and southwest at times, cold air is likely to be positioned to the northeast, bringing wintry showers at times.
“Where fronts from the southwest do reach the cold air towards the northeast, there is the risk of some snow, most likely across hills, but perhaps extending to lower areas at times.
The Met office has also issued a yellow weather warning for snow and rain in parts of the North West and Yorkshire for Tuesday 27th January – so do keep up to date, and be careful out there.
