Yesterday (May 7), people in Greater Manchester headed to the polls, and the 2026 local election results for the region have all now been confirmed. Local council seats were up for grabs in all ten Greater Manchester boroughs, including Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Manchester, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan.
In total, more than 5,000 council seats were up for grabs across 136 local authorities in England on election day. Mayoral elections also took place in six areas.
In a dramatic shift across Greater Manchester, the Reform Party achieved a series of wins in the election results. Reform managed to gain 24 of 25 seats in Wigan, 13 of 21 seats in Salford, 13 of 20 seats in Rochdale and 18 of 19 in Tameside, which has seen Labour lose overall control of the council for the first time in 47 years.
However, in Manchester, the Green Party saw success, gaining 18 of 32 seats, and the Liberal Democrats won in the borough of Stockport. For the Greater Manchester boroughs of Bury and Trafford, Labour won the most seats and still holds the majority.

Moorside The Bury Council elections in the Moorside ward have been cancelled following the death of one of the candidates, Victor Hagan. The council will now reschedule the election for Moorside, which must be held within 35 working days of the local elections on Thursday 7 May.
