The pandemic halted a lot of celebrations over the last couple years, including the joyous carnivals around the world. From the islands of the Caribbean to the streets of London’s Notting Hill, communities had to put down their feather backpacks, take off their sparkly costumes, and turn down the pumping music on their streets. However, not content with shying away any longer, Manchester is welcoming a bright and beautiful funky winter carnival to Bowlers Exhibition Centre on November 20, inspired by Rio Carnival. The raucous revelry will take place until the early hours the next day, and tickets are available now.
Set against the spectacular backdrop of illuminated palm trees, oversized porcelain-style masks, and an actual live waterfall, Manchester Made Me Funky Carnival will play host to jaw-dropping fire acts, aerial performers, and live performers throughout the evening and well into the night. There will be LED stages, themed rooms and a ‘Neon Jungle’ experience ready to transport you to the streets of Rio de Janeiro. A stellar list of performances from famed funk musicians will include Jocelyn Brown, Julie McKnight, and other soulful stars, plus many celebrated DJs will take to the decks.
While the dress code is smart casual, carnival-inspired costumes are more than encouraged as you prepare to party the night away beneath colourful collections of materials flowing from the ceilings. The carnival will take place between 6pm and 4.30am the next morning, but for those even more hardcore among us, you can opt to head to the after party ’til 6am. Grab your tickets now to bring some sunny celebrations to your November!
